Drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods in tanks and/or in packages must hold an ADR vocational licence.


An ADR licence issued by the DVLA is valid for 5 years.


The Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) are the appointed body for the department of transport and they are responsible for all related matters, including marking and issuing the results. There will be a gap between sitting the exams and the licence being issued.


Candidates taking the ADR must sit core module and either tanker or packages, with at least one class.The duration of the course will depend on the classes taken and could range from 3 to 5 days.

  • Class 2 Gases

  • Class 3 Flammable Liquids

  • Class 4 Flammable Substances

  • Class 5 Oxidising Agents& Organic Peroxides

  • Class 6 Toxic & Infectious Substances

  • Class 8 Corrosives

  • Class 9 Miscellaneous Substances
